Antidote - a Liberty 458

HISTORY

Designed by Seattle-based Peter Hoyt in the 1980s, the Liberty 458 is a center-cockpit blue-water monohull with many wonderful features. Anitdote is hull #30 of only 31 Liberty-458 boats ever built. The Liberty boat fleet was built at the Shin Fa shipyard in Taiwan, known for its immaculate teak work.

We know that Antidote has circumnavigated the globe at least once. Previous to living with us in Washington State, Antidote resided with her previous owners on Vancouver Island, Canada, where she acted as a live-aboard for a number of years.

INTERIOR

Antidote has teak and holly cabinsole. The interior bulkheads are covered with solid teak vertical staving. The ceilings are covered with solid horizontal teak battens.

Toward the aft master suite, along the port side, lives a navigation station and work bench.

The main engine compartment access door is in the hallway toward the aft cabin. It is also where the main electrical panel is located.

SALON

The center cockpit stairs enter into the salon, which has a spacious layout with a generous settee and dinette. Shelves line the perimeter, perfect for a library! While very open in design, the ceiling holds assist passengers in remaining steady while underway. Wall-mounted brass oil lamps give the salon a romantic old-timey feeling.

The salon is the central access to the fuel tanks and bilge.

GALLEY

The galley has a large divided refrigerator/freezer with Lexan shelves. It is both double-door toploading and front access, and has 4" thick Urethane foam insulation. The galley has white marble countertops, large drawers, storage lockers, and a microwave cabinet. There is a gas stove, and the stove compartment is stainless steel lined.

We plan to rebuild the refrigeration system and replace the countertops.

There is a sizable access door to the engine compartment from the galley.

FORWARD CABIN

The forward cabin boasts a uniquely designed double birth and office space with a desk. The top birth pulls out to a double-sized bed for a max sleeping space of 3 people.

Under the births is a huge amount of storage. We plan to utilize this space for spare parts, our sail repair sewing machine, tools, and emergency supplies. The floor of this birth is the access to the water maker.

Through this cabin forward is another head. Beyond that, at the very bow, is a large sail locker.

AFT CABIN

The aft master stateroom has a queen center-birth bed and lots of storage! Because Antidote is a center-cockpit boat, the aft cabin is fully private with no stairs or walkthroughs. The bed is 60” wide and 78” long, with a tapered foot. There are plenty of windows to provide natural light.

There is an ensuite head with a separate toilet and shower. The height of the shower is 6’2”.
